John's Baby Blessing

We blessed our baby John today!  Afterwards, my dad said "This is a big day for you John!  And you won't even remember it, you will probably just read about it."  Since I am pretty bad at keeping a journal, I thought I would write his experience for him on here.

John Christian Olsen,

It was the first time I had gone to church with you, and it felt so good for our whole family to be there together!  Poor John, you had to wear this stiff, silky suit with a tight neck.  If you've seen your baby pictures... you have probably noticed your lack of neck.  But you stayed pretty happy in it until the end of sacrament meeting.  And you looked cute with your little bow tie. ;)

For weeks, I could see how excited your dad was to bless his first son.  When we sat on the bench, I could feel how proud he was to have this little boy and to be able to bless you today.  They announced the blessing and everyone came up (Papaw, Great Grandpa Olsen, Uncle Craig, Grandpa Olsen, Grandpa Brady, Grandpa Mark, Uncle John, Dad).

Your Dad gave you your blessing.  He talked about how you would have opportunities to serve in the church and grow to become the man you will want to be.  I cried because I already knew how special you would grow up to be.

All your aunts and uncles and grandparents came to visit together at our house.  We ate sloppy joes.  Everyone wanted to hold you, even when you cried at them.  And everyone talked about how cute your smile was.  You love to be bounced up and down and to look into people's eyes.

I hope that you know how much I love you now and how much I will always love you.  We are so proud of you for coming into our family at this challenging time.  We know you are a special little boy.

Love you always,
Your mom
